Can I print on rainwear?

Background
Waterproof garments are made to withstand the wind and rain, which can make it hard for our transfer prints to “grab onto” the fibres in the material. Thankfully, however, it’s not impossible. Here, we take a look at the best way of applying heat transfers on your rainwear.
How do I apply the heat transfer?
To achieve a perfect heat transfer application on waterproof clothing, you should always protect the waterproof garment from the heating iron using protective paper. (See art. no. 3016 protective paper in our product catalogue or online store).
Start by shrinking the rainwear at 160⁰C or 130⁰C, depending on which of our products you want to apply. This is easy to do. Just press the heating plate directly against the garment (which you are protecting with protective paper) for 8-10 seconds. This shrinks and stabilises the garment ahead of the transfer, creating the ideal conditions for a correct application.
What to do!
1. Protect the rainwear from the heating iron with the matte side of the protective paper face down to prevent the surface of the garment becoming shiny.
2. Shrink the garment for 8-10 seconds at 160⁰C or 130⁰C depending on whether you’ve chosen STARK or FLEX Heat Transfer.
3. Then, place your decal where you want it to go on your waterproof garment, cover with protective paper and begin the application.
4. Once the application is complete, you can remove the transfer carrier and your application is done!
TIP!
So as not to damage the surface of your rainwear, it can be a good idea to use our protective paper (with the matte side towards the garment) which you can order in our webshop!
